Welcome to your crash course in dog training! Whether you've just brought home a new puppy or want to brush up on an older dog's manners, these seven days will set a strong foundation. Remember, consistency is key!
Day 1: The Power of a Name & "Sit"
Start with the basics. Say your dog's name in a happy, upbeat tone. When they look at you, reward them with a treat. This builds a positive association with their name. For "Sit," hold a treat over their head. As their nose goes up, their bottom will naturally go down. The moment they sit, say "Sit!" and give them the treat.
Patience is the most important tool in your training toolkit. Every dog learns at a different pace.
Day 2: "Come" & Leash Introduction
"Come" is a vital command. Start in a quiet room. Say "Come!" in an excited voice and reward them when they approach you. For the leash, let them sniff and get used to it first. Attach it to their collar for short periods while you're playing indoors.
- Keep sessions short and fun (5-10 minutes).
- Always end on a positive note.
- Use high-value treats they absolutely love.
By following these simple, positive steps, you'll build a bond of trust and respect that will last a lifetime. Happy training!
